How to Retain the Best Employees (Part 2)

Uncategorized May 13, 2020

Support your employees’ endeavors outside of the office. Far too often as bosses and managers we think of our team members as only focusing on their work. We either forget they have lives outside of the office, or don’t think about what they do with their family, communities, or other professional endeavors.

Forbes recently stated that of all the people currently employed within the United States, over 50% had additional jobs or work outside of their primary job. That’s more than half of people working on a side hustle!

With so many digital tools, apps, and opportunities to make your own business, it’s no wonder that the top performers in the work force are flexing that entrepreneurial muscle on the side. Rather than ignore what the majority of workers are doing, embrace your employees’ endeavors. Ask them about it. Let your team know that you support their goals.

Most people working on side hustles aren’t expecting or planning for it to blow up into an overnight success so they can quit their day job. On the contrary, they just enjoy the creative freedom it offers. Most people want to perfect, hone, and become masterful at a craft.

Can you think of a more perfect set of ideals an employee could have?

Support these workers, find ways to help them succeed, and embrace how their endeavors add value to your business.

This Week’s Take Away

Talk to your team members. Ask them what they do with their free time. What do they do outside of work? What do they do with their families, or if they have a side hustle.

Don’t be that boss that says they can’t do it— because the majority of people already are. If you don’t support them, they’ll find somewhere else that does.
