What Is The Best Recruitment Strategy?

One of the best recruitment strategies is actually something that can be fun, and also create a positive impact on your existing team and company culture. As business owners and operators we all want high performing employees, and part of that is being capable of recruiting awesome people that want to be a part of what you have going on— finding people that want to be a part of your team and your business.

We have discussed other methods of recruitment before, but today I want to highlight a specific method that I’ve practiced myself that really yielded positive results. This concept is built upon a psychological phenomenon that has been recently come to light, and is something that most businesses aren’t doing.

FOMO. The Fear of Missing Out.

Defined as anxiety that an exciting or interesting event or opportunity may currently be happening elsewhere, and it’s often aroused by posts seen on social media or a website. FOMO has been popping up in conversation in recent years, and a lot of that has to do with social media.

What does it have to do with your business, or even as part of a good recruitment strategy?Psychology Today studied the phenomenon which showed that FOMO was felt no matter how that person found out about it. It’s going to happen regardless if they hear about an event or opportunity online, or from a friend.

If you follow me on social media (@grantbotma or fb.com/grantbotma) you can see where I’m going and view some examples of how I can utilize the fear of missing out as a recruitment strategy. Every other day, or at least once or twice a week, I am celebrating.

Share Your Positive Impact

I’m celebrating about the awesome things that my team is doing. It could be the records that they’re breaking, their high performance, their positive impact to the community, reviews our customers have posted or shared on social media about my team, or even the fun stuff my team gets to do.

That celebration not only makes a positive impact for what I’m trying to do on social media, which is being positive and encouraging. It unintentionally creates some FOMO. I get direct messages and comments all the time from people mentioning how fun it looks to be a part of the team. People are attracted to movement, particularly when it moves in a positive direction.

When I post on social media celebrating my team, and about our excitement and growth, and the fun we’re having doing it, it creates that fear that views can feel— maybe they fear that their current employer isn’t moving in a positive direction, or that they themselves aren’t contributing to the type of positive impact that they’d like to see.

This Week’s Take Away

This week I want you to celebrate with your team on social media. Not only will people within your circles and exposed to you see that positivity and celebration; but your team as a part of that celebration will share it word-of-mouth to other people.

The best recruitment strategy is to celebrate with your team and share those experiences that will have those top performing individuals curious and eager to work with you and become a part of it. The next thing you’ll know is a line of people who can’t wait to become part of the growing force that is your company moving in a positive direction.
